Just so everyone is aware we are having an issue with spammers. It is causing servers problems in regards to the mail server. So if the site goes down for a while that is why. I am trying to find a fix for the issue.
There hasnt been a lot of major updates on the site recently for various reasons but I am working on a way to fix this. It will involve a major redo of the site and moving to a new server. This is something which the Jars World has been needing for a while. I am not sure how it will all work. This major change will mean some current sections may be removed. I will rework them if I can. The possible sections of the site to be removed will be as follows:
Links
The Forum
The monthly polls
Site of the Week
The Store
The advertisement section of the site
For this new site I am going to be looking for people to help test the site performance and design. I will also be looking for people to help keep the site updated as I am having less time to do the updates I want to do. Contact me if you are interested in helping.
This is the last update of any kind for the year 2005. I have decided reset the current poll because of what happened with the server earlier in the month. Hopfully I will see some better results for the poll in January.
If you hadnt heard the server the Jars World is on was hacked. And after a lot of hard work I have finally gotten the Jars World back in running order. Sadly I couldnt get every area back to how it was before. Some of this was beyond my control. Please let me know if you find something not working.
Internet Archive Wayback Machine updated 07.05.05 Tim
I know this doesnt really fit into Site News or Jars of Clay News category but I thought I would post this anyway. I am not really sure how I found the Wayback Machine, but let me tell you it is really a neat resource out there on the net. If any site was indexed by archive.org at any point then the Wayback Machine is almost guaranteed to have some sort of record of that site. Usually the part you get from a search it is just the html file itself. But sometimes you get lucky and images made part of the backup. You should check out the history of either the Jars World or Jarsofclay.com just to see the way things used to be.
I have been doing some updates here and there. This is just a hold over till I get the new site launched. My last change was to the Link section of the site. I rearranged some of the links to new and different categories. Before that I made some other sections easier to read. I would appreciate any feed back on the site or new ideas for the site.
The server the Jars World is on had a somewhat major issue 2 1/2 weeks ago. This issue ended up breaking some of the scripts the Jars World uses. It seems like once I get one script fixed I find a new one broken.
As I was finally finishing up my new review of Frail tonight I realized several things that totally caught me off guard. It is hard to believe but Jars of Clay and Frail have been around for over ten years now. I didnt become a fan until sometime late 1995 or early 1996. I do remember hearing the early rumblings of them several times throughout 1994. It really is amazing how things have changed in this world since then. I can only imagine what the future holds.
The other thing I realized was the Jars self titled album is nearing its own 10th birthday. Needless to say this was / is a very important album for them. It started their success and it definitely furthered it. Its the album that made me a fan.
I have been working a lot of OT at my fulltime job, which has made it hard to do any real updates. I have found some time at work in which I can do some small updates. So with that time I am going rewrite some of my album reviews. In the next week or two I hope to add some items to the downloads page.
I made some minor updates to the site. I changed some flash code, retired the old Jars of Clay picture, and updated the Jars World logo. I had more planned, but ran out of time. This will have to do for now.
I apologize for the lack of any real major updates, but we have some things in the works. Most notably we are working on a downloads page and restructuring of some the other pages effected by this. Also the Flash parts of the site will be getting some code updates in the next couple of days. It should all be notice able.
At long last the time is finally come. The new Jars World is here with new improvements (more on those in a bit). There were some snags along the way that hindered it all, but I think it was worth the wait. It'll take a little time to get rolling again, but rest assured it won't be long till we are back full speed. In fact there are already some new sections in the works.
Some of the improvements to the site are:
A new Flash based navigation
A new splash designed to work with google.com better
A new fresh layout
A new content manager for easier updating of site content and design
I was hoping to have the new site done in time for the release of the Jars new album. But that just isn't going to happen. After months of prep work the new forum is just taking way too long. :( It should be done soon though.
I apologize for the messageboard and the other cgi apps not working. Things like that happen on upgrades. Little things get overlooked. But it should be running know. :)
I apologize for the lack of updates of any kind from myself. There really is no excuse. I have made some minor changes. Mainly I have removed sections that aren't needed/updated anymore or links that are no longer valid. The Jars World 7th anniversary is coming up soon. Hopefully my surprise will be done by then.
