In the Name of Love
First off let me state that I am not a real big U2 fan. I only know a few of their songs. I got this album free from someone who bought it and wasn’t too fond of it, which worked out for me, it was one less thing I had to buy. Even after listening to the album at least 10 times or more I doubt that I will become any more of a U2 fan.
I should also point out that my main reason for wanting the album was the U2 song the Jars cover. That being said, when it comes to a cover song the Jars of Clay do, I do not find it necessary to listen to the original. They take the song and play it as their own original recording, which I think is a must. And with this song that is exactly what they did. Their recording of "All I want is You" has a nice crisp, clean, organic sound to it which is good because it fits the current style of "Who We Are Instead". Out of all the Jars cover songs I have heard I would have to say this is the best one to date.
I think over all the album is a pretty good one. It has exposed me to U2 songs I had never heard, and it exposed me to some bands/artists I hadn’t heard in a while or had never heard. Both of these are good things. I found all the song recordings to be excellent quality. My only complaint about the album is some songs sound to much like the originals, which to me doesn’t show any real creativity.
If you don’t have this album I would get it if nothing else for the simple fact that part of the proceeds to go helping the less fortunate.
